DOME RESTORATION
Innovative Solutions to Challenging ProblemsReal Dry Waterproofing can tackle virtually any waterproofing challenge you have.
In the summer of 2019, Real Dry was contracted by The Computer Merchant, Ltd. of Norwell, Mass., a company specializing in IT staffing services. The beautiful dome sitting atop their office headquarters was in need of repair and rejuvenation. Leaks had developed that were causing potential safety issues and it was overdue for general maintenance. The company also wanted to avoid any possible negative impact to the customer experience inside the building. And finally, their detailed and intricate sailing ship weather vane sitting atop the dome needed to be protected so that it would emerge from the entire process unscathed.
Inspection Complete
After assessing the particulars, Real Dry proposed a solution that other waterproofing companies either didn’t think of or couldn’t implement – they didn’t want to tackle the job, or they simply weren’t up to the challenge.Once inspection of the Fiberglass dome was completed, Real Dry built a special, custom, curved ladder that closely followed the angle of the dome. This permitted the work crew to safely reach the apex of the dome at 15 feet. Next, we acid-washed the dome surface to remove particulates that had built-up over time from pollution and other airborne contaminants.
After a second cleaning with Bio Wash, we applied a paste epoxy at all seams, since the dome is actually six individual pieces joined together. Once the paste epoxy had thoroughly cured, we applied a Macropoxy® coating at a thickness of 40 mils. Later, a second coat was added in order to ensure full coverage at all seams and on all faces of the dome.
The final coating applied was an all-weather, satin sheen, UV-resistant polyurethane developed for the Maritime industry. A maintenance coating will be applied every other year to ensure a watertight dome.

Today, The Computer Merchant, Ltd. of Norwell has a leak-free dome sitting atop their beautiful building, providing a safe retail customer experience that will last for years to come.
